QUALITY CONTROL ANALYSIS OF PADS USING STATISTICAL QUALITY CONTROL TO REDUCE PRODUCT DEFECTS

Abstract

This study aims to analyze quality control of pad products on the urethane line at PT XYZ using the Statistical Quality Control (SQC) approach. The main problem faced by the company is the high number of defective products, particularly porous and non-expanding defects, which significantly affect production efficiency and final product quality. This condition requires comprehensive analysis to identify main causes and formulate appropriate improvement actions. The analysis applies seven quality control tools: check sheets, histograms, control charts, fishbone diagrams, Pareto diagrams, scatter diagrams, and flowcharts. Results show that porous defects are dominant with 1.005 cases (61.66%), while non-expanding defects reach 625 cases (38.34%). Porous defects mostly occur in the Rear Seat Cushion Conventional part, whereas non-expanding defects dominate the Front Back RH MNL part. Based on the P control chart (p-chart), proportions of both defects are outside control limits, indicating the process is not statistically controlled and needs immediate corrective action. Fishbone analysis identifies causes from human, method, machine, material, and environmental factors. The scatter diagram shows a weak negative correlation between production volume and defects with R² = 0.289, indicating process quality influences defects more than production volume. As improvement, the company is proposed to implement the 5W+1H approach to address root causes, improve process stability, reduce defects.
